Disclaimers
Always consult the relevant professionals before making any decisions. Everything on this Site is general information only and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Verify it against primary sources and seek qualified, licensed advice before you act.
1. Overview
The information on johnnyautoseed.com (the “Site”) is provided by Johnny Autoseed LLC for general informational and educational purposes only. It documents an open research and planning effort around semi-autonomous local food systems. It is not a product solicitation, a warranty, an offer to sell securities, hardware, or services, or a promise of any particular outcome.
These disclaimers supplement, and are incorporated into, our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Where these disclaimers and the Terms differ, the Terms govern. By using the Site you acknowledge and accept the disclaimers below.
2. “As-Is”, No Warranties
The Site and all of its content are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any information on it is accurate, complete, current, or reliable.
3. Not Professional Advice
Nothing on the Site constitutes professional advice. In particular, content on the Site is not engineering, electrical, structural, plumbing, agricultural, horticultural, environmental, safety, regulatory, legal, tax, financial, investment, insurance, or medical advice.
Designing, installing, powering, plumbing, and operating automated growing systems can involve electrical work, water systems, structural loads, heavy or moving machinery, and local code and permitting requirements. You should retain appropriately licensed and qualified professionals (for example, a licensed electrician, plumber, structural engineer, or agricultural advisor) and confirm all applicable codes, permits, and regulations before making purchases, builds, or operational decisions. You are solely responsible for the safe and lawful design, installation, and operation of any system you pursue.
4. Research & Data
All estimates, ranges, and comparisons on this site are compiled from publicly available datasets, vendor specifications, and industry research. Johnny Autoseed has not experimentally or independently verified them; they may be incomplete, rounded, inconsistent across sources, or superseded by newer releases.
Treat every figure as directional context only. Confirm material details against primary sources and apply your own judgment before purchases, budgets, partnerships, fundraising, or operational commitments.
Johnny Autoseed is an open research and documentation effort-not a product solicitation, warranty, or offer to sell securities, hardware, or services. Nothing on this site is investment, legal, tax, medical, or other professional advice.
Some pages, prototypes, or drafts may involve AI-assisted tooling. We aim for accuracy, but errors can occur. If something material looks wrong, contact us and we will work to correct it.
Homepage figures & sources
The headline numbers in the homepage stat band are directional. Two of them (marked “up to”) describe a best case under favorable conditions, not a guaranteed result:
- 23.5M Americans in food deserts — based on USDA Economic Research Service food-access research (low-income, low-access population). Estimates vary by definition and year.
- Up to 40% of food wasted — USDA and EPA estimates of U.S. food loss and waste across the supply chain, commonly cited in the 30–40% range.
- Up to 90% less pesticide use — illustrative best case. Precision, robotic cultivation (for example FarmBot-style mechanical weeding and targeted treatment) can sharply reduce or eliminate herbicide and pesticide use versus broadcast spraying. Actual reduction depends on crops, pests, and practice.
- Up to 100% powered by renewable energy — illustrative best case. Low-draw equipment can run on an appropriately sized solar-plus-storage system; “up to 100%” assumes a system designed for full off-grid operation. See Electricity & Solar above.
Do your own research. The figures above are directional starting points, not authoritative conclusions. Primary sources change, methodologies differ, and your local conditions will vary. Verify any statistic that will inform a real decision against the original source, and consult qualified professionals before acting on it.
5. Cost, ROI & Financial Estimates
Any prices, cost ranges, budgets, savings figures, payback periods, return-on-investment ranges, or other financial estimates on the Site are directional illustrations only, compiled from public and vendor sources and standard assumptions. They are not quotes, guarantees, or projections of actual results.
Actual costs and savings vary widely with site conditions, design choices, vendor pricing, labor, utility rates, climate, crop selection, market prices, and operating practices. Comparative claims (for example, savings relative to retail produce) describe potential outcomes under particular assumptions and are not promises that you will achieve them. Do your own diligence and consult qualified advisors before any financial or operational commitment.
6. Water Sourcing
The Site discusses several ways a food system might be supplied with water - including municipal or well water with precision (drip) irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and emerging atmospheric water-harvesting technologies. These are presented for general education and planning discussion only.
Water availability, water rights, rainwater-harvesting legality, well regulations, and potability standards vary significantly by location and change over time. Some jurisdictions restrict or regulate rainwater collection and greywater reuse. Water intended for drinking, food washing, or irrigation of edible crops may require testing and treatment to meet applicable health standards. We make no representation that any water source or device described will be available, legal, sufficient, potable, or safe for your intended use. Confirm local rules and water quality with the relevant authorities and qualified professionals before relying on any approach.
7. Electricity & Solar
Discussions of powering equipment - including grid power, solar photovoltaic panels, and battery storage - and any associated figures are simplified, illustrative estimates based on standard assumptions (such as nominal device power draw, average peak sun-hours, and typical system losses). They are not an electrical design, a generation guarantee, or a substitute for a site assessment.
Real energy production and consumption depend on equipment, location, weather, shading, orientation, system losses, and usage patterns. Electrical and solar installations are subject to safety codes, permitting, utility interconnection and net-metering rules, and should be designed and installed by licensed professionals. Confirm requirements with your jurisdiction and utility before purchasing or installing equipment.
8. Calculators & Interactive Tools
Any calculators, estimators, or interactive tools on the Site (for example, a solar sizing estimator) produce rough, educational estimates from the inputs and default assumptions provided. They do not account for all real-world variables, do not constitute an engineering or financial analysis, and should not be relied upon for purchasing, sizing, budgeting, or installation decisions. Verify all results with qualified professionals and primary sources.
9. Experimental & Emerging Technology
The Site references emerging and research-stage technologies, including atmospheric water harvesting using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) - see, for example, published research from the Yaghi laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley (MOF water-harvesting device paper).
Such technologies are described for educational and forward-looking discussion only. They may be experimental, may not be commercially available, may not perform outside of laboratory or demonstration conditions, and are not part of any product or service we currently offer. References to third-party research do not imply endorsement by, affiliation with, or verification by those researchers or institutions. We have not independently validated third-party research results.
10. Third-Party Products & Trademarks
The Site refers to third-party products, platforms, and projects - for example FarmBot, Mobile ALOHA, ALOHA 2, AhaRobot, OpenArm, and Trossen, among others. All product names, logos, and trademarks are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification and descriptive (nominative) purposes only.
Johnny Autoseed LLC is an independent project and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or partnered with any of these companies, projects, or trademark owners unless explicitly stated in writing. Any product images, specifications, or descriptions are attributed to their sources; references are not claims of ownership, partnership, or endorsement.
11. External Links & Embeds
The Site links to and embeds third-party content (for example, YouTube videos, a Substack newsletter, a Google Form, and external research and vendor pages). We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, products, or privacy and data practices of those third parties. Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and policies. Links and embeds do not constitute endorsement.
12. AI-Assisted Content
Some pages, prototypes, drafts, images, or tooling on the Site may be produced or assisted by AI-based tools. While we aim for accuracy, AI-assisted content can contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Treat such content as informational only and verify anything material before relying on it. If something looks wrong, please contact us and we will work to correct it.
13. Food Safety & Health
Growing, harvesting, handling, and consuming food carries inherent risks. Nothing on the Site is a guarantee that any system, method, crop, or water source will produce food that is safe, clean, or suitable for consumption. We make no health, nutritional, or food-safety claims. You are responsible for following safe food-handling, water-quality, and growing practices and applicable public-health guidance. Content on the Site is not medical or dietary advice.
14. Automated, Robotic & Moving Equipment Safety
The Site discusses automated and semi-autonomous growing equipment - including gantry robots, robotic arms, autonomous rovers, and other powered tools (for example, FarmBot, Mobile ALOHA, OpenArm, and similar). Such equipment can move unexpectedly, operate unattended, and present serious hazards - including crushing, pinching, cutting, entanglement, electrical, and impact injuries.
Nothing on the Site is operating instruction, a safety certification, or a substitute for the manufacturer's documentation and applicable safety standards. Any automated or moving equipment must be installed, guarded, maintained, and operated strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and all applicable safety codes. Keep children, bystanders, pets, and livestock clear of moving equipment, provide appropriate guarding and emergency stops, and never treat autonomous operation as a substitute for supervision where people or animals may be present. You assume all risk arising from the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of any equipment you build or deploy.
15. Forward-Looking Statements
The Site contains forward-looking statements about plans, roadmaps, concepts, and possible future offerings. These reflect current intentions and assumptions, are subject to change without notice, and are not commitments, promises, or guarantees that any plan, feature, product, service, price, or timeline will be realized.
16. Consulting
Consulting offerings described on the Site are not currently available for booking, and no payments are accepted through the Site. Descriptions of possible consulting tiers, scope, or pricing are illustrative and subject to change. If and when consulting is activated, the specific terms governing any engagement will be presented at the point of booking. See our Terms of Service for more.
17. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Johnny Autoseed LLC and its officers, members, employees, and agents will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising out of or relating to your use of, or reliance on, the Site or its content - including any decisions you make about purchases, builds, water or power systems, budgets, or operations. Your use of the Site and any reliance on its content is at your own risk. This section is in addition to, and limited by, the limitation-of-liability and other terms in our Terms of Service.
