Launching an educational resource exploring how automation and robotics could transform local food production through open research and modular technology.
The Vision
What if your neighborhood had a fully automated food system? Seed to harvest, harvest to kitchen, kitchen to table. Less labor. Built for everyone.
That’s the vision we’re exploring with Johnny Autoseed.
Why Now?
The convergence of several technologies makes this exploration timely:
- Precision agriculture systems like FarmBot have proven that automated planting, watering, and monitoring work at household scale
- Mobile manipulation research like Stanford’s Mobile ALOHA (and the broader ALOHA line, now also represented by Trossen AI hardware from Trossen Robotics) demonstrates that robots can learn complex physical tasks through demonstration
- Open-source hardware communities have lowered the barrier to entry for building custom automation solutions
